Bubble Wrap is used for all sorts of packaging. It was originally invented in 1957 by Alfred W. Fielding and Marc Chavnnes to be used as wallpaper. Their invention as wallpaper was not successful, they then realized it was a good insulator for greenhouses. In 1959 the invention found its purpose as packaging material. Sealed Air was the company that saved bubble wrap and now is a major international company. Bubble wrap is more environmentally friendly, cheaper and effective in keeping packaged goods in proper condition.

- The engineers realized that the lightweight and insulating properties would be very useful as greenhouse insulation. The air bubbles in the bubble wrap both insulates very well and keeps away the weather on the other side. In addition, it keeps an object away from damage since the air bubbles withhold the forces of handling and transport from the item, and keeps it safe. This is especially important when there are very sensitive materials being distributed, and companies do not want to spend too much money on the packaging.

- Generally, the ethics/problems with using products that are associated with other uses is a very cloudy area. Some products may be useful for other uses, but it may cause much more damage to the environment or reduce its effectiveness. If a product can be used for other uses and is proven to be successful, I believe it should be allowed, as long as it is safe.
